Jogging Log - Days 4, 5, and 6

Day 4

Having been busy during the day, I decided to jog at night. After taking a rest on day 3, I was more than ready to have a nice run. Much to my surprise, my comfortable running distance had increased by almost half! That being said, it should be noted that I’m not yet running large distances, so a 50% increase is no more than a quarter of a mile, but to me as a first-time jogger, this is an absolutely excellent start.

The cool nighttime air was a refreshing change from the beating midday sun. The chill was a great form of motivation, because the more I ran, the warmer I became, but the breeze kept myself from getting overheated. I’d like to experiment with different jogging times to see how the time of day affects both my ability to run and how I feel for the remainder of the day.

Day 5

It rained pretty heavily all day, so todays post will be short - I did not run.

Day 6

Today’s run did not work out exactly as I’d planned, but taught me a very valuable lesson regarding wind and weather. As a started my run, there were some minor clouds passing by overhead that I assumed would quickly blow over. I was very wrong, as halfway into my run, a very strong storm hit. There was little rain, but the wind was strong, and happened to be blowing against me. As a result, I had to stop running significantly sooner than I stopped on Day 4, which was upsetting, but understandable.

This issue is not something I didn’t know about, but I’d never actually experienced it while trying to measure my running distance. This brings to mind the list of important running variables that a friend of mine mentioned to me recently; variables such as weather (experienced today), food, amount of rest, etc. I’ll have to start experimenting with all of these variables, one at a time, to see which combinations improve my ability to perform the most.
