Inspiration In The Strangest Places…
Recently I’ve been adding photos to the site to spice up the visual appearance of the site, but along with this added benefit, I discovered that stock photos gave more than just a pretty webpage; they gave me a ridiculous amount of creative inspiration.
Each photo seemed like the subject of it’s own story, the cover of a clever novel, or some other aspect to a piece of interesting literature. As I cycled through all the different photos under each category, I got so many ideas that I had to open a notepad file and write down each idea so that I’d remember all of them later!
This is really simple - find a free stock photo website (easily searchable on Google), find a category of photo that strikes you as interesting, and scroll through all the shots. Pick your favorite(s) and invent a purpose for them. If you’re a blogger like myself, write a post about one. If you’re a musician, write a song. Poet? write a poem. The list just goes on and on. If you hit a creative slump, regardless of your medium, this might be just the creative inspiration you need to get back on track.
This actually reminds me of when I was a kid, how my brother and I would mute the T.V. and improvise the dialogue between all the characters. As juvenile as it might seem at first, that technique, too, is a great way to get the inventive juices flowing, and can create a gold mine of potential topics.
All in all, I guess it’s important to find inspiration in as much as you can, but if you’re having a bit of trouble, try looking through stock photos - you might be surprised how interesting some of them are!
